Financial reforms should continue in normal way: Montek

The Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission has said that there is a big agenda for financial reforms and it should continue in a normal way. Speaking at the Economic Editors Conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia said that stopping financial reforms would be a serious mistake. He said that with the prospects of global financial situation improving, he expects the capital inflows to increase. He said that over all economy of the country in the 11th plan period has matured, investment rate went up by 39 per cent, capital markets are doing well, savings have gone up and there is dynamism in the private sector. He was also hopeful that the National Sample Survey which is underway will show that the lives of people have improved in the 11th plan period.
