Kanpur administration in Uttar Pradesh will be providing financial assistance of one lakh rupees each to next of kin killed in hailstorm. At least 8 persons including a woman were killed and about 12 injured after thunder showers accompanied by squall lashed the entire district on Monday.
District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram told AIR Lucknow correspondent that most of the deaths have taken place in house collapse and uprooting of trees triggered by dust storm. Lightening has also claimed 2 lives in rural areas. Vehicular traffic was also disrupted as several trees and electricity poles were uprooted and felled on roads. Now it has normalised on most of the roads. Disrupted power supply and communication has been partially improved.
