The Finance Ministry today issued clarifications regarding various aspects of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, PMJDY, for the benefit of account holders under the scheme. A person who already has a bank account with any bank, need not open a separate account under PMJDY. He will just have to get a RuPay Card issued in his existing account to get benefit of accidental insurance. The Ministry said in a statement that overdraft facility can be extended in the existing account if it is being operated satisfactorily. Accidental insurance of Rs one lakh is available to all RuPay card holders in the age group of 18 to 70 years.
