Finance Minister rules out any control on overseas fund flow for now

The Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee ruled out any control on overseas fund flows for now. He said, this is not the time to put any restrictions as asset markets are not in bubble zone. He said that the inflows have helped benchmark Indian equity indices to scale near record levels. In an interview to a National Daily the Finance Minister also expressed the hope that after the festive season is over, the prices of food items will moderate. He said that inflation is an area of concern as the rising prices specially the essential commodities hurt the weaker sections of society . Mr Mukherjee said, it is in this context that effective public distribution system which provides subsidised food items to the targetted group is relevant. He said that food security is important and the challenge is to strike a balance between growth and inflation
