Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has begun presentation of the Union General Budget in the Lok Sabha. It is the fifth time Pranab Mukherjee is presenting the Union Budget. The Union Cabinet had earler approved the General Budget. Presenting the Union Budget, the Finance minister said, Indian economy now in a far better position than it was eight years ago. Mr. Mukherjee said, India weathered economic crisis well. He said, the Indian economy was facing grave uncertainty and Growth had started decelerating when interim and full budget for 2009-10 were presented. Mr. Mukherjee said, the economy has recorded impressive recovery in the past few months and can witness faster recovery in the coming months. He said, the first challenge before Government is to quickly revert the economy to a high GDP growth path of 9 per cent and secondly to harness economic growth to make it more inclusive and consolidate gains. The Finance also said that measures were taken to strengthen food security.
