Final T20: Indian women beat South African by 54 runs

Indian women defeated South African women by 54 runs in the fifth and final Twenty20 cricket International in Cape Town today. 

After setting a target of 167 runs, India dismissed the host team for 112 in 18 overs.  

By winning the match played at Newlands, India women also ended their South African tour with another series win.  

The side led by Harmanpreet Kaur won the five-match T20 series by 3-1. The third match was a no result encounter due to rain.     

The Indian women had earlier clinched the ODI series by a 2-1 margin.

Sent in to bat, India made 166  for 4  in their 20 overs.  Opener Mithali Raj was the top scorer with a fine 62 off 64 balls.  Jemimah Rodrigues made 44, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was run out for 27.  Veda Krishnamurthy was not out on 8.  

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana contributed 13 runs.  

In men's cricket, the third and final Twenty20 International between India and South Africa will also be played in Cape Town today.   

The encounter is slated to begin at 9.30 p.m. IST.   

At present, the series is level at 1-1.
