In Assam, the filing of nominations for the first phase of assembly elections closes today. 62 constituencies spread over 13 districts of Upper Assam, Barak Valley and two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar, will go to polls on the 4th of next month in this phase. A total of 172 candidates have filed their nominations so far. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on Friday. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is the 21st of this month.
