In Gujarat, filing of nomination papers for the 1st phase of Assembly elections for 87 seats in Saurashtra, South Gujarat and some parts of Ahmedabad district will end today.
About 140 nominations have been filed till last evening including candidates from parties like BSP, SP and Janata Dal United.
Congress and BJP finalized their remaining candidates for the first phase of polling late last evening. Former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel led Gujarat Parivartan Party has also announced its first list of 63 candidates.
AIR Ahmedabad Correspondent reports, by and large, the stage is set for triangular contest between Ruling BJP, Congress- NCP alliance and newly formed Gujarat Parivartan party.
Polling for the first phase will be held on 13th December. About 1.81 crore voters are eligible to use their franchise in more than 21 thousand polling booths. Second phase of polling is scheduled for 17th of next month for which filing of nomination papers is on.
