Filing of nominations end for assembly polls in TN, Puducherry and Kerala

In Tamil Nadu, Filing of nominations for the assembly elections came to a close this evening. In Chennai which comprises of 16 constituencies, 379 nominations have been filed including 180 nominations on the last day today. Till yesterday, over 2500 nominations were filed in the 234 constituencies. Meanwhile top political party leaders are on a whirlwind tour of the state in a bid to garner votes for their fronts. The prevailing sweltering heat conditions have forced leaders of various political parties to begin their road show and rallies in the evening. Our correspondent reports that the special squads deployed by the election commission to prevent large scale money transactions have seized over 20 crore rupees of unaccounted cash and 7 crores worth of articles during surprise checks across the state.In Kerala, as the last day for submission of nomination papers ended today as per initial reports from election commission, 1300 nomination papers have been submitted so far for the next mont's assembly elections. Opposition leader Oommen Chandy also submitted his nomination paper from Puthuppally today. Scrutiny will be done on Monday and 30th is the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers.As the final picture of candidates in the election fray is to emerge in comings days, election conventions have further intensified in all districts of Kerala. Both Chief Minister Achuthanandan and Opposition leader Oommen Chandy addressed election conventions of their respective parties in Pathanamthitta district today. Top most leaders of both BJP and Congress will reach Kerala in coming days. Senior Congress leader and Defence Minister A K Antony will be touring different districts of the state from 1st of April. Meanwhile, training for poll officials for April 13 poll is fast progressing. Apart from 40 company central forces about thirty thousand police personnel are likely to be deployed to ensure smooth polling in the single phase election of Kerala.
