Filing of nominations for the fourteenth assembly began in Tamil Nadu today morning. Speaking to newsmen in Chennai today, the Chief Electoral officer Mr. Praveen Kumar said that the returning officers will be receiving the applications everyday till 26th from eleven in the morning to three pm in the evening. Pointing out that two lakh 76 thousand government employees will be nominated to conduct the single phase polls in the State, the CEO said that 58 expenditure observers will start monitoring the expenses of the candidates. He said that presently cash amounting to 9 crore rupees and eight crore worth articles were seized. Mr Kumar said that out of the 37 thousand 687 cases relating to violation of model code of conduct 34 thousand were related to defacement of property. Referring to security preparation, the CEO said that ten thousand booths were identified as sensitive and this may change according to the scenario. Regarding misuse of government vehicles he said that the election commission has taken action in 1605 cases. Pointing out to complaints on ambulances being misused he said that hospitals were referred to ascertain the situation. The Chief electoral officer said that once the candidates have filed their nominations, their affidavits will be updated in the websites.In Kerala, filing of nomination papers begins with the issuance of notification today for next month's assembly elections. Nomination can be filed till 26th of this month and scrutiny will be done on 28th. Last date for withdrawal is 30th. The single phase election to 140 member Kerala assembly is on 13th of next month.Meanwhile, Congress led UDF is holding a high level meeting at Thiruvananthapuram in connection with announcement of candidates and election manifesto. Congress party is expected announce candidates on Monday.In Puducherry, Filing of nomination for the assembly elections scheduled for the 13th of next month begins today. The notification for the elections will be issued this morning. Filing of nominations will continue till the 26th of this month and the final list of contesting candidates will be released on the 30th.AIR correspondent reports that perhaps for the first time, seat sharing and alliances between the major political parties in the union territory continue to be in a limbo, though filing of nominations begin today. The Ruling congress has had two rounds of talks with its principal ally the DMK on sharing the 30 seats, but has not been able to resolve the contentious issue of seat allocation.The congress has in its front has the DMK, PMK and VCK. Even in the opposition AIADMK front, there has been no headway made on alliance formation. Though the party has had discussions with the newly floated All India NR congress led by former Chief Minister Mr N.Rangaswamy, the core issue of who will lead the front seems to be the hurdle in finalizing the alliance.Meanwhile, the BJP and BSP have announced that they will contest all the 30 seats in the union territory. The BSP National general secretary Mr. Suresh Mane will be announcing the first list of candidates tomorrow.The Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party released its second list of candidates With this, it has announced the contestants for 19 segments in the 30-member Assembly.
