Filing of nominations begins in 89 constituencies; Sonia files nomination from Rae Barelly

Filing of nominations began today for 89 constituencies spread over 7 states and 2 Union Territories for the seventh Phase of Lok Sabha polls.

The constituencies are all 26 in Gujarat, all 13 in Punjab, 17 in Andhra Pradesh, 7 in Bihar, one in Jammu and Kashmir, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal and one each in the Union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Filing of nominations also began today for 119 Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh.

9th of this month will be the last date for filing of nominations while scrutiny of papers will take place on 10th April. Polling will be held on 30th of this month for this phase.

Filing of nominations for Phase six of Lok Sabha elections is on in 117 seats spread over 11 states and one Union Territory.

The constituencies are all 39 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Assam, 7 each in Bihar and Chhattisgarh, one in J&K, 4 in Jharkhand, 10 in Madhya Pradesh, 19 Maharashtra, 5 Rajasthan, 12 in Uttar Pradesh, 6 in West Bengal and the lone seat in the Union territory of Puducherry.

5th of this month will be last date for filing of nominations for this phase while scrutiny of papers will take place on 7th April. Polling will be held on 24th of this month under this phase.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination for the Lok Sabha constituency in Rae Barelly in Uttar Pradesh this afternoon. She was accompanied by her son and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, party leader Capt. Satish Sharma and a few advocates.

Mrs. Gandhi drove to central party office in Rae Barelly where she performed puja before proceeding to the district Election Office to file her nomination. She was accompanied by a larger number of Congress supporters.
