Fifth phase of Bihar panchayat elections to take place tomorrow

In Bihar, the fifth phase of panchayat elections will take place tomorrow at 842 panchayats in 51 blocks of the state. Eight blocks are in naxal infested areas. AIR Patna correspondent reports that over 49 lakhs 55 thousand voters will decide the fate of 85 thousand 403 candidates. The State Election Commission has directed the government to immediately arrest miscreant elements and file charge sheet against them and start trial in fast track court. The State Director General of police Neelmani told AIR that over twenty three thousand trouble makers have so far been arrested through out the state. About 27 lakh rupees illegal money and one lakh 67 thousand liquor have been seized. The Deputy Inspector General of Police has been instructed to camp in ultra-infested districts to ensure free and fair polls. The state authority has sealed the India – Nepal border along the state to stop infiltration.
