An estimated 63 per cent voters today exercised their franchise in the fifth phase of panchayat polls at 842 gram panchayats in 51 bocks of Bihar. No major incident was reported from any part of the state. AIR Patna correspondent reports that Katihar district recorded the highest voter turnout at 73 percent, while Gaya district witnessed the lowest turnout at 53 per cent. Over eight hundred persons including a presiding officer were arrested as a preventive measures during todays poll. Over two lakh seventy thousand rupees were seized from the possession of arrested persons. The Panchayat elections will conclude on May 18 after the remaining five more phases. The sixth phase of elections will be held on the 6th of this month.
