The Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Mr Kamal Nath presented the Fifth National Road Safety Awards at a function in New Delhi today. The award for the winner in the individual category went to Dr.A.M. Ikram, a Medical Practitioner for providing his best services to the general public in spreading road safety awareness. The awards were presented at the Valedictory Function of the Week long Road Safety Week celebrations being organized across the country. <br/><br/>Calling for concerted efforts by all the stakeholders and govt departments , Mr Nath underlined the need for an integrated approach to tackle the threat of road accidents.He said that the Government is actively considering creation of National Road Safety and Traffic Management Board and a bill in this regard has been finalized. He said, the Board would act as a dedicated agency to oversee road safety activity in the country and would have powers to issue guidelines on a wide range of issues concerning road safety. Mr Nath said that the Ministry of Human resource Development has also been requested for inclusion of Road Safety Education in the school curriculum.
