In the FIFA World Cup, Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller scored his first international hat-trick as Germany crushed Portugal, 4-0 in a lopsided Group-G opener at Salvador. Muller not only scored a hat-trick, this World Cup's first, but was also involved in the first red card of the tournament which was awarded to Pepe for head butting the German. AIR correspondent reports that injuries to some of their top players did not hinder Germany's dominance as Portugal was completely outplayed.In the other Group-G match, United States defeated Ghana 2-1. In Group-F, Iran and Nigeria held on to a nil-nil draw at Curitiba. This was the first draw of this World Cup. Three matches are scheduled for later tonight. In Group-H, Belgium will take on Algeria at 9:30 PM Indian Time, while Russia will clash with Korea Republic at 3:30 AM. Hosts Brazil will meet Mexico in their second Group-A match at 12:30 in the night.
