In the FIFA World Cup in Russia today, Brazil beats Costa Rica 2-0 in Group E match. At St. Petersburg, Dramatic late strikes by Philippe Coutinho and Neymar gave Brazil their first win of the World Cup.
Coutinho stabbed home from six metres out in the 91st minute while, Neymar volleyed a second six minutes later to get the five-time world champions up and running.
Only Pele and Ronaldo have scored more goals for Brazil than Neymar junior who have scored 56. The result takes Brazil to the top of Group E with four points.
It also means means Brazil have avoided the ignominy of equalling their longest winless run at the World Cup. With this defeat Costa Rica are eliminated from this year's WorldCup.
While the second fixture between debutant Iceland and Nigeria is underway in Group D match at Volgograd Arena. Nigeria are considered so far to be one of the under- performing teams of the tournament.
The Volgograd game is so highly anticipated in Iceland that its national post office are closed three hours early as most of the country is watching the game.
The final encounter of the day will see Serbia battle Switzerland at Kaliningrad at 11.30 pm. Since Brazil's opener also ended in a draw, Group E is wide open right now and Serbia will play today for an outright victory against Switzerland with an eye on the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, one of the pre-tournament favourites, France, joined Uruguay, Croatia and hosts lowest ranked Russia in the knockout rounds which begin from the 30th of this month.
Three matches are lined up for tomorrw, In group G, Belgium will face Tunisia at Spartak Stadium at 5.30 pm While In Group F, South Korea will take on Mexico at 8.30 pm at Rostov Arena And Germany will play against Sweden at 11.30 pm at Fisht Stadium.
