The match ended 1-1 at the end of regulation time after Thaisa equalised for Brazil to cancel out Valerie Gauvin's opener. In extra time, skipper Amandine Henry found the net in the 107th minute to send France into the last-eight.

In the other pre-quarterfinal at Valenciennes, England got the better of Cameroon with a three-nil win. Steph Houghton, Ellen White and Alex Greenwood were the goal scorers. France and England have joined Germany and Norway in the quarterfinals.

In today's Round-of-16 matches, defending champions US will take on Spain at 9:30 PM at Reims, while Sweden play Canada in Paris at 12:30 AM. Tomorrow, Italy will clash with China, with the Netherlands facing Japan.
