FIFA U-17 World Cup: Spain, Iran enter quarter-finals

Spain and Iran have joined Germany and the United States in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Under 17 World Cup tournament. In the Round of Sixteen match played in Guwahati today, Spain overcame former champions France 2-1. Spain are seeking their maiden FIFA Under-17 World Cup. In other Round of Sixteen fixture held in Goa, Asian powerhouse Iran defeated two-time champions Mexico 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in their fourth appearance in the tournament. In the two other pre-quarterfinal games later this evening, England will take on Japan in Kolkata, while Mali will face Iraq in Goa. Both the matches will begin at 8 p.m. Yesterday, Germany and the United States became the first two teams to reach the quarterfinals by winning their respective Round-of-16 matches.
