FIFA U-17 World Cup: Japan becomes 11th team to qualify for Round 16

In the FIFA Under-17 World cup, Japan became the eleventh team to advance to the round of 16 even as they were held to a 1-1 draw by New Caledonia in a Group E match at Kolkata today. In another Group E game in Guwahati today, France rallied from a goal down to register a 5-1 win against Honduras. France with three straight wins have already booked their Round Sixteen berth.At present, two Group F matches are under way. England are playing against Iraq at Kolkata, while Mexico are facing Chile at Guwahati. With the conclusion of these encounters, all the teams for the Round of Sixteen will be finalised tonight. The eleven teams who have booked their berths for the Round Sixteen so fare are: Japan, Ghana, Colombia, Paraguay, Mali, Iran, Germany, Brazil, Spain, England and France. Overall, two top teams from each group and four best third-placed teams will comprise the Round of Sixteen. The Round of Sixteen will be played from Monday.
