FIFA U-17 World Cup: France beat New Caledonia, Japan defeat Honduras

In FIFA Under-17 World Cup tournament, France beat New Caledonia by 7 goals to one while Japan hammered Honduras 6-1 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati today. France scored six of their seven goals in the first half in a one sided group E match. Amine Gouiri scored two goals for the European heavyweights. In another World Cup group E match, Japan began their campaign against Honduras on a resounding note as striker Keito Nakamura scored the ongoing World Cup's first hat-trick. Nakamura found the back of the net in the 22nd, 30th and 43rd minute. In other two group F matches at Vivekanda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, England defeated Chile by four goals to nil while Mexico were held to a 1-1 draw by Iraq in their opening group match. European qualifying tournament runners-up England thrashed Chile 4-0 as star winger Jadon Sancho scored twice in a highly entertaining group F match. Mexico and Iraq both tcollected one point each from the other Group F match. The Asian champions Iraq took a surprised lead in the 16th minute through a goal by Mohammed Dawood before Roberto De La Rosa equalised in the 61st minute for Mexico.
