FICCI welcomes scrapping of GoMs and EGoMs

Industry body FICCI has welcomed the scrapping of all 30 Group of Ministers, GoMs and Empowered Group of Ministers, EGoMs constituted by the previous UPA government at the Centre. FICCI President Sidharth Birla said that the new government's move to scrap is a step towards good governance. He said, over the past many months, the industry body has repeatedly been suggesting such a step and it is an important element in government's enabling agenda.

Congress has said that the GoMs and EGoMs had been constituted by the UPA government primarily because most of the issues were complex in nature. Party leader Manish Tewari told reporters in New Delhi that the groups were like single window system to take decisions with exchange of ideas within ministries. He, however said, it is the prerogative of the every government to run the administration in the manner in which they want.

The government yesterday announced its the decision to scrap 9 EGoMs and 21 GoMs saying that the move will expedite the process of decision-making and usher in greater accountability in the system.
