Fiber-optic submarine cable between India and Europe launched

A new high capacity, state-of-the-art fiber-optic submarine cable between India and Europe via the Middle East has been launched. The submarine cable has been launched by a consortium of nine leading global telecom players, including India's Tata Communications. The cable will benefit broadband users along the route.According to a statement released by UAE-based telecom giant Etisalat, the three-pair fiber-optic cable, named IMEWE(India-Middle East-Western Europe), has a design capacity of 3.84 terabits per second. It is the most advanced cable connecting India to Italy and France via the Middle East. It will traverse Pakistan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Lebanon along the way.
