In Tamilnadu, none of the six major political parties have given sufficient representation to women in the April 24 Lok Sabha polls in the state despite having claimed to espouse the cause of women in Parliament.
While ruling party AIADMK headed by J Jayalalithaa has alloted only four of the 39 seats in the state to women, DMK president M Karunanidhi, has named only two women candidates. Congress has named only three and the six parties alliance led by the BJP is no better. While the BJP, DMDK, MDMK, IJK and KMDK have not named even a single woman as their candidate, PMK has fielded only one woman candidate.
The CPI has named one woman candidate and CPI(M) two. The Aam Aadmi Party is no different as it has not named any woman candidate in the 21 Lok Sabha seats it is contesting in Tamil Nadu.
