The festival of Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated in different parts of the country today.<br/> <br/>TOn the occasion of Raksha Bandhan today, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani visited Siachen in Jammu and Kashmir to tie rakhi to the soldiers. In a unique gesture by the government, she became the first female Union Minister to visit Siachen.<br/><br/> Talking to soldiers , she expressed gratitude to them and said the country is extremely proud of their supreme sacrifices. Mrs. Irani presented a canvas to the soldiers carrying messages from people all over the country. She said, people enthusiastically participated in government programme 'Azadi Ke Rang' and sent messages to the soldiers. <br/><br/>Later talking to media, she said it is an emotional moment for her as she is here to tie rakhi to the soldiers on behalf of all sections of the country. Earlier, she laid wreath at the warm memorial in Siachen. At an altitude of 22000 feet Siachen is the highest battle field in the world. <br/><br/>Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal tied Rakhi to the BSF personnel deployed at the international border in Attari near Amritsar yesterday. <br/><br/>Girls from colleges and schools also tied Rakhis to BSF troops at the Attari border.<br/><br/>Congress President Sonia Gandhi has extended her greetings on Raksha Bandhan. In her message, she said Rakhi represents the glorious culture of the country. Underlining its significance in the brother sister relationship, she reiterated women's position as harbringers of social transformation. Mrs Gandhi hoped that the festival strengthens family bonds and creates a safe society for women.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman will be tying Rakhi to the jawans at Lumla in Tawang today. <br/><br/>Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal tied Rakhi to the BSF personnel deployed at the international border in Attari near Amritsar yesterday. <br/><br/>Girls from colleges and schools also tied Rakhis to BSF troops at the Attari border.<br/><br/>Congress President Sonia Gandhi has extended her greetings on Raksha Bandhan.
