The festival of harvest, Lohri is being celebrated today in North India especially in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. Popcorns, peanuts, Rewari and Gajak are distributed to all neighbours, friends and relatives on the occasion. <br/><br/>President Ram Nath Kovind has greeted the people on the occasion of Lohri. Mr Kovind also greeted people on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and Pongal, which will be celebrated tomorrow.<br/><br/>In his message, the President said the entire nation comes together to celebrate these festivals with gaiety and fervour. He said, these festivals are associated with harvest and are a moment to celebrate the hard work and enterprise of millions of farmers. He expressed hope that these festivals will bring joy, health and happiness to all.<br/><br/>In Himachal Pradesh, the Lohri festival is being celebrated today with full enthusiasm. Lohri marks the end of the long nights of winter and welcomes the longer days of summer, as the Sun begins its journey to the Northern Hemisphere. <br/> <br/>People have started Lohri celebrations especially in the rural areas of Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi and Bilaspur. In the evening, people gather around the bonfire, offer prayers and sweets to the fire God and worship it. Sweets like rewari and gajak made from jaggery and sesame seeds are put into the fire, as offerings to the Fire God.<br/><br/> Although the traditional songs of Lohri have lost its voice in the fast songs of modern time yet some peoples are trying to keep their traditions alive by taking part in festival like Lohri.
