Soderling defeated Albert Montanes of Spain 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals.Meanwhile Novak Djokovic of Serbia demolished American Mardy Fish 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 to enter the quarters. Next in line for Djokovic is Gael Monfils who overpowered his countryman Richard Gasquet 6-4, 7-5, 7-5 to become the first Frenchman in a decade to reach the US Open quarter-finals.In the women's section Vera Zvonareva kept alive Russia's fading challenge with a rapid-fire 6-1, 6-2 victory over unseeded German Andrea Petkovic to erase the disappointment of her exit at the same stage last year.In another match Caroline Wozniacki eased past an error-prone Russian Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-4. Estonia's Kaia Kanepi beat Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer 0-6, 7-6, 6-1 to reach the last eight against the only surviving Russian woman, Vera Zvonareva after the Wimbledon finalist outgunned Germany's Andrea Petkovic 6-1, 6-2. Wozniacki's next opponent is Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia the only unseeded player left in the women's draw who advanced with a 7-5, 7-6 win over another former Russian champion, Svetlana Kuznetsova.
