In the Asia Oceania Group I Federation Cup tennis tournament, India on Thursday suffered a 1-2 defeat against Uzbekistan. At Nonthaburi in Thailand, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist pair of Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarthi lost the decisive doubles rubber in three sets 6-2 3-6 3-6 against Nigina Abduraimova and Albina Khabibulina.It is India's second consecutive defeat in Pool A of the event after losing to China on wednesday. To stay in the Group, India will have to win the play-off tie after the group stage.India were promoted to Group I last year when they won all the three ties, beating Singapore, Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan without losing a rubber.India's best Fed Cup performance came in 2006, when it ended as the runner-up in Asia/Oceania Zone Group I.
