Government on Sunday launched a campaign to highlight the advantages of allowing Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, in multi-brand retail. Commerce and Industry Ministry has given a full page advertisement in all leading newspapers, stating that FDI in multi-brand retail will help farmers, create more jobs and benefit consumers. The advertisement states that domestic retailers will benefit from sourcing their requirements from wholesale cash and carry store at a discount. It added that farmers will also benefit from the decision as they will receive better prices for their produce.
