The government has formulated a scheme for construction of storage godowns through private entrepreneurs under the Private Entrepreneurs Guarantee, PEG Scheme. Under the scheme, the Food Corporation of India would give a guarantee of ten years for assured hiring.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for consumer affairs, food and public distribution Professor K V Thomas also disclosed that a capacity of 151.96 lakh tons is to be created under the scheme through private entrepreneurs and Central and State Warehousing corporation in 19 States. Out of this for a capacity of 107 lakh tons tenders have been finalized.
