The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Adbullah today strongly advocated for using energy efficient technology to meet its growing demand. Addressing National Conference on Green Design buildings and Habitats in New Delhi today, the Minister said that the beginning can be made by constructing energy efficient structures. He asserted that the government has to take a lead in this case. He elaborated that the Centre has already taken measures in this direction and urged the States to follow the suit. Dr. Farooq Abdullah also called upon the private sector to contribute in saving energy by using energy efficient technologies with the focus on the building. Referring to growing energy demand in the country, the Secretary in the Department Mr. Deepak Gupta said that the country will need five times more energy compared to the present level and said that the target can be only achieved if energy is used efficiently. Our correspondent reports that experts in non-conventional energy and other stake holders are participating in the two day conclave to prepare a roadmap for green design buildings in the country.
