Farmers of Manipur have a new hope as Barley and Wheat could be cultivated now in dry season

In Manipur, with the success of a new venture of the Agriculture Department on cultivating Barley and Wheat during the dry season, which does not require much water, farmers of the state have now a new hope. They need not worry about keeping their agricultural fields barren during the dry season after the primary harvesting season. The venture was tested at Waiton and Andro villages in Imphal East District by the State Agriculture Department and successfully completed it with a commendable crop yield. After harvesting, most of the fields in the state remain unutilised from January to May. However, after the successful venture, farming can now be done during this period also. State Agriculture Department said that the venture did not encounter any problem of insect infestation. The Department further said, since the crops could be harvested by March, one can always practice their normal farming process and as barley and wheat have lesser amount of husk, their crop yield is better than paddy.
