Farmer’s leader B.M Singh arrested in UP

In Uttar Pradesh former MLA and well known farmer’s leader Mr. B.M Singh was arrested on Sunday afternoon at Pilibhit. A total of 19 his supporters have also been taken into custody. A local court has sent them jail for 12 days under judicial remand.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that a scuffle had taken place on Saturday between congress and CPI ML supporters over holding a public meeting at Rahul Nagar labourers’ colony in which more than two dozen people were injured from both the sides. Three named FIRs were lodged by both the parties at Puranpur and Hazara police stations against 89 people including Mr. Singh. <br/><br/>Congress leaders have criticised arrest of Mr. Singh saying vindictive actions of the government. State congress president Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi has reached Pilibhit in support of Mr. Singh. Congress has said that the government has taken action against Mr. Singh as he was instrumental for raising voices against anti farmer’s policies of state government on Sugar cane prices and land acquisition issues.
