Farmer leader Kateria released from hospital

In Uttar Pradesh, the arrested farmer leader Ram Babu Kateria was today released from the private hospital in Aligarh after completing judicial formalities. Violence broke out at Aligarh and Mathura after his arrest on Saturday evening. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports Kateria is going to meet his fellow farmers at Tappal village who were agitating over the demand for enhancing compensation for the land acquired for NOIDA-Agra-Yamuna express way and High Tech Township. It is expected that he would make an announcement on the agreement made between Kisan Sangharsh Samiti and state government late on Monday night in consultation with farmers sitting on Dharna. Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh had met with the representatives of agitating farmers on Monday night regarding their demands. The government has enhanced land compensation rates to be given to the farmers at Aligarh and Mathura district by 121 rupees per square meter after this meeting. Now farmers will get compensation at the rate of 570 rupees per square meter for their land acquired for NOIDA- Agra-Yamuna expressway. The government has also said if any farmer would not agree to give his land on enhanced rates, then his land would not be acquired and it would be returned back to him. The state government has also already announced to set up a high-level committee headed by the Aligarh Divisional Commissioner to further review all other issues related to acquisition of farm land along the Noida-Taj Expressway in the district. The farmers have been holding demonstrations for nearly three weeks near Aligarh demanding compensation at the rate paid to NOIDA and Greater NOIDA farmers.
