In Assam, lakhs of fans on Monday paid rich tribute to the legendary singer, Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee Dr. Bhupen Hazarika when his body reached Guwahati. People thronged to the streets to pay their last respect to the deceased music genius. Our Correspondent reports that it took around six hours to cross 30 kilometres road to reach his ancestral house at Nizarapar in Guwahati from Borjhar airport as large numbers of people were blocking the streets to have a glimpse of their beloved singer. Dr. Hazarika’s body will be kept at historic judges Field till 12.00 noon tomorrow for public viewing and paying tributes.Dr. Hazarika’s last rites will be performed with full State Honour tomorrow afternoon at the Gauhati University campus at Jhalukbari in the Guwahati city. The State Government has declared a holiday in all its offices, institutions and establishments coming under Negotiable Instruments Act tomorrow. Dr. Hazarika, 86, breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday following multi-organ failure.
