Famous theatre personality Satyadev Dubey passes away

Renowned theatre personality and Padma Bhushan awardee Satyadev Dubey passed away in Mumbai on Sunday. Family sources said Dubey, who was in a coma for the past few months passed away at a sub urban hospital at 11.30 pm. 75 year old Dubey had suffred a stroke in September following which he went into a coma.

Born in Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, Dubey had become a legend in Marathi-Hindi theatre. In his long career, he produced, directed plays of all the prominent playwrights of post-Independence period including Girish Karnad, Badal Sarkar, Mohan Rakesh and Vijay Tendulkar among others. He won the 1978 National Film Award for Best Screenplay for Shyam Benegal 's Bhumika and 1980 Filmfare Best Dialogue for Junoon (1978 film) He was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1971.
