Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the Lok Sabha today that the families of 14 martyrs of Siachen this year will soon be paid their compensations. <br/><br/>The matter is under process. He told the House that defence personnel of officers' rank deployed at Siachen are granted 21 thousand rupees per month as Siachen allowance. <br/><br/>Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks are paid 14 thousand rupees per month. In addition, they also get Highly Active Field Area Allowances. Lt. Colonels and above ranks get Rs 12 600 while Majors and equivalent are paid Rs 11,640. <br/><br/>Captains and equivalent ranks get Rs 10,650 and Lieutenants Rs 10,170. The Junior Commissioned Officers are paid Rs 8,730. <br/><br/>Havildar and equivalent ranks are given Rs 5,820. Naik and Sepoy ranks are paid Rs 4,860. Mr. Parrikar said last year one officer and three JCOs lost their lives in Siachen.
