‘Faisal Shahzad admits attending training camp in Pakistan

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has said Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad, the suspected Times Square bomber, attended terrorist training camp at Waziristan in Pakistan.
Shahzad was detained at the John F Kennedy airport in New York as he tried to leave for Dubai. Federal authorities arrested the Pakistan-born US national on charges of planting a car bomb in New York City. He is reportedly the son of a retired Air vice Marshal of the Pakistan Air Force and had spent several months in Pakistan, before coming to the US about two months ago. Shahzad also told the FBI about his training.
Addressing a joint press conference with several top officials at the Justice Department in Washington US Attorney General Eric Holder has said Shahzad has accepted his involvement in this bombing case. Mr Holder said that the car bomb might have failed to detonate but the plot was a very serious attempt, which if successful could have resulted in a lethal terrorist attack causing death and destruction in the heart of New York City.
He said Shahzad is providing valuable information about the nearly catastrophic attack but he did not elaborate. Pakistani authorities in the meantime have detained several persons in Karachi for their alleged links with Faisal Shahzad. Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik has pledged to cooperate fully with the US in the investigation.
President Barack Obama has vowed Americans would "not cower in fear" because of the Times Square incident.
