Faculty status in Pvt sector disappointing: Parl Edu Panel

A Parliamentary panel feels that both the government and private sector should complement each other to provide support in running higher educational institutions.

The panel on Human Resource Development headed by Oscar Fernandes, however cautioned that private educational insititutions should not be given a free hand in the name of expansion and autonomy.

It also said, the feedback from students as well as few UGC inspections indicates that the status of faculty is more disappointing in the private sector.

The Panel said, fresh pass outs from the same institution are given teaching assignment. Whereas in Government institutions, the number of faculty members are below the sanctioned strenghth but those in position are found to be qualified and experienced.

The Panel also said there is an urgent need for having an assessment about the faculty position in private institutions to identify gaps and take corrective measures.
