Face the challenge posed by naxalism: Chidambaram to Jharkhand Govt.

The Home Minister has called upon the Jharkhand government to give clear directions to the state police and administration to face the challenge posed by naxalism.

While condemning Friday's incident in Gumla district in which seven security personnel and one civilian were killed, Mr. Chidambaram said by triggering the landmine blast, the CPI(Maoists) have sent a loud and clear signal to the Jharkhand government.

He said that there was no provocation for the blast as the police personnel were returning from a routine patrol in the mining area and was not engaged in any search operations or had opened fire.

The Home Minister said that it is a well known fact that the naxalites collect levies from the illegal miners and they resorted to the attack only to scare the police away. He also asked the state government, political parties, media and the civil society to understand the true nature of naxal activities and resolve to end this menace.
