External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will pay a four-day visit to Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from tomorrow.
It will be her fourth visit to a neighbouring country since the Narendra Modi government assumed office.
Earlier, she visited Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal. This is part of the Modi Government’s policy to strengthen ties with its neighbouring countries.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said, Ms. Swaraj will attend the India-ASEAN Foreign Ministers meeting, the East Asian Summit meeting for Foreign Ministers, and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), which are being held there.
On the sidelines, she will also hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts from China, Australia and Vietnam, among others.
During her bilateral talks with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister, Ms. Swaraj will speak about enhancing connectivity, trade and tourism.
Mr. Akbaruddin said that the Ministers would discuss completion of the multi-nodal transit transport link between Kolkata, Sittwe and Mizoram, as well as the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway. Ms. Swaraj will meet Myanmar’s President Thein Sein before she returns.
