Ext Affairs Min Krishna in Islamabad on three day visit to resolve all outstanding issues

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna has arrived in Islamabad to review the last round of bilateral dialogue with Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar. Earlier, Mr. Krishna said, New Delhi is committed to resolving all issues with Pakistan through bilateral dialogue in an atmosphere free from terror and violence.

He said that it would be unrealistic to expect a barbaric terror attack such as Mumbai, not to cause a major setback to the efforts to build peace and co-operation. He also asserted that India has given more than adequate evidence to Pakistan to enable them to bring the perpetrators of 26/11 to justice.

Mr.Krishna said, he cannot prejudge the outcome of the meeting and dialogue is the best way to solve all issues of India-Pakistan.

Sources say, all the bilateral issues will come up for discussion in Mr. Krishna’s meeting with his Pakistani counterpart and other leaders. However, terrorism and bringing to book the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai attacks remain core concerns of New Delhi.

Mr. Krishna said, there has been progress in areas of economic and commercial cooperation and he hopes to give a further boost to people-to-people contacts. Our Correspondent accompanying the External Affairs Minister reports that India is ready to sign the new visa regime agreement with Pakistan.

Ahead of Mr.Krishna's crucial talks with Hina Rabbani Khar, eight technical sub-groups of the India-Pakistan Joint Commission met in Islamabad yesterday to discuss prospects for cooperation in less contentious fields like agriculture and health.

The experts are expected to provide inputs for a meeting of the Plenary of the Joint Commission that will be co-chaired by the two Foreign Ministers on Saturday.

Prospects for cooperation in several aspects like agriculture, health, education, science and technology, IT and telecommunications, environment, tourism and information were on the agenda of the meeting.

The Foreign Secretaries of the two countries will meet today to prepare agenda for tomorrow’s talks between the two Ministers.
