Three former ground staff of Thiruvananthapuram Airport have been detained by city police at the Bangalore airport in connection with the detection of crude explosive in the cargo hold of a Kingfisher Airlines flight in Kerala capital on Sunday.

Police said, the three, who had resigned only a few days before the incident, were detained on Wednesday by immigration officials at the Bengaluru International Airport while they were about to board a flight to Dubai en route to Kabul. The three were handed over to Central Industrial Security Force and later to Kerala police the same day.

The crude explosive was found from the cargo section of the Kingfisher plane that arrived in Thiruvananthapuram with 31 people on board from Bangalore, sparking a bomb scare and authorities admitted to a security lapse. Police had later said the crude explosive material was not of high density but could have exploded during flight due to air pressure.
