In Kerala, as directed by the empowered committee appointed by the Supreme Court, experts from Survey of India are visiting Mullapperiyar dam in Idukki today.At the same time, prolonged tests by the engineers of Central Water Power Research Station to ascertain the inherent strength of the structure has come to a halt due to machine failure.AIR correspondent reports that the experts from Survey of India are to find out the impact on adjoining areas if the water level of Mullapperiyar dam goes up to 136 feet and to what extend the nearby areas will be submerged. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has reiterated that an amicable solution between Kerala and Tamil Nadu can be worked out to sort out Mullapperiyar dam safety issue.
