Expert panel recommends minimising radiation from mobile towers

An expert panel has recommended bringing a new law for protection of wild animals from mobile tower radiation. Taking to reporters in New Delhi, head of the panel, Mr. Asad Rahmani said the committee has emphasized formation of independent regulator to decide about density and placement of towers.

He added that such a regulation exists in Russia, New Zealand and other countries.

The panel has reviewed 919 international studies on the ill effect of radiation on the behavior and mating habits of birds.

The ten members’ panel headed by birds expert Mr. Rahmani was formed earlier this year by the government to the study of electromagnetic radiation effect on wild life.
