Expelled MLAs join Cong in Assam

In Assam, four Members of Legislative Assembly who were expelled from their respective parties for voting for the Congress candidates in the last Rajya Sabha election in the State formally joined the ruling Congress Party at a function in Guwahati.They include BJP MLAs- Abhijit Hazarika representing the Rangapara constituency and Kartik Sen Sinha from the Patharkandi seat. All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLAs- Anowarul Haque and Rasul Haque Bahadur representing the Badarpur and Dhubri constituencies respectively also joined the Congress.All of them joined the ruling party as its associate members in the presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bharat Chandra Narah and a section of Cabinet Ministers and MLAs.AIR Correspondent reports that in all seven MLAs, including four from the BJP, two from the AIUDF and one from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), had violated their party whip by supporting the Congress in the last Rajya Sabha election in the State. They were later expelled from their respective parties.Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party has requested APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita to give respectable posts to Hazarika, Sinha, Haque and Bahadur in their respective district Congress committees.Speaking at the function, Chief Minister Gogoi said, at present, more people have faith in the Congress so the four MLAs have joined the party. Mr.Gogoi said the newly joined members would be given preference to get the tickets in the 2011 State Assembly elections.
