Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Bannerjee today said that there should not be any forcible acquisition of land and described existing laws in this regard as draconian. Talking to a TV Channel, she said, her party has given some suggestions to the government, saying it should not acquire land for private projects and land taken for a project should not be left unutilised. She also sought a pension scheme for land losers who are old and have no employable member in the family. She said, her party is also in favour of addressing the problems of agricultural workers and share-croppers. In a reply to a question, Ms Bannerjee said that she is still open to setting up a railway factory on 600 acre of the nearly 1,000 acre Tata Motors land at Singur, if the West Bengal government handed over the land to her ministry.
