External Affairs Minister S M Krishna has said that the existence of terror sanctuaries beyond Afghanistan's borders is a major impediment in achieving peace and stability in that country. Mr Krishna underlined the need for the international community to ensure that Afghanistan does not slide back to become a safe haven for terrorists. He was speaking at the ASEM foreign ministers' meeting at Godollo in Hungary on Monday night. Contending that no country can stay immune from the challenges posed by terrorist groups that thrive in safe havens, Mr Krishna said it is imperative that the gains made in Afghanistan were safeguarded. He reiterated India's stated position that the Afghan government should observe certain 'red lines' while negotiating with the Taliban.
