EXIM Bank Of India approves $155mn soft loan for Nepal projects

The EXIM Bank of India, has approved soft loan of 155 million dollars for Nepal for three projects. These projects are 36 million dollars for 32 megawatt Rahughat Hydro-power project, 90 million dollars for the 22 -kv Koshi Corridor Transmission Line project and 29 million dollars for the 132 kv Solu corridor Transmission Line project. Joint Secretary Ministry of Finance , Madhu Marasini today told Kathmandu correspondent that the Ministry has received the approval letter from the EXIM Bank approving the three projects. He said the approval would give a boost to the energy sector for which the private sector is also being involved. There are other projects infrastructure development are also on the pipeline.During the visit of the then Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to India in October 2011, an agreement had been signed between the EXIM Bank and government of Nepal for 250 million dollar soft loan for the construction of fourteen infrastructure projects , including hydropower, transmission lines and roads. As per the agreement, India will provide long-term loans for thirty years at 1.75 percent interest.
