Excise policy case: Delhi HC seeks response from ED on bail plea by Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia

<span style="color: #222222;">The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought a response from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a plea by former Delhi deputy chief Minister Manish Sisodia seeking bail in a money laundering case related to the alleged Excise Policy scam.<br />'' <br />'' Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate on the regular bail plea and interim bail application of the senior AAP leader. The High Court granted time to the Enforcement Directorate to file a verification report within a week and listed the matter for further hearing on the 11th of May.<br />'' <br />'' Mr Sisodia has filed the regular bail plea as well as an interim bail application on grounds of illness of his wife.<br />'' Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan and Mohit Mathur, representing Mr Sisodia, submitted that the AAP leader's wife has been suffering from multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease, for the last 20 years and it was likely to worsen.<br />'' <br />'' The Enforcement Directorate's counsel opposed the plea contending that Mr Sisodia was the key conspirator in the case.<br />'' <br />'' Mr Sisodia has challenged a trial court's 28th of April Order by which his bail plea was dismissed in the money laundering case on grounds that the evidence prima facie "speaks volumes of his involvement in the commission of the offence." Mr Sisodia's regular and interim bail pleas in the case lodged by CBI are also listed for hearing during the day before Justice Sharma.<br />'' He was arrested by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate in the corruption and money laundering cases on the 26th of February and the 9th of March.<br />'' <br />'' The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate had arrested Mr Sisodia for alleged corruption in the formulation and execution of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 and for purportedly laundering the money generated from the Policy.<br />'' <br />'' </span>The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday filed a Supplementary charge sheet against former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the alleged Delhi Excise policy scam. The Court listed the matter on Saturday for a hearing by special judge MK Nagpal.<br />''<br />'' The supplementary charge sheet was filed after 4 pm at the filing counter. Thereafter the charge sheet was sent to Duty Judge. The Duty Judge listed the matter on Saturday before the court concerned for hearing. The supplementary charge sheet was filed by special public prosecutor Naveen Kumar Matta.<br />''<br />'' The supplementary charge has more than 2100 pages. The operating part has 271 pages. The charge has been filed within the stipulated period of 60 days.<br />''<br />''Sisodia was arrested by the ED in this case on the 9th of March. Earlier, he was arrested by the CBI on the 26th of February. He is the 29th accused arrested in this case.
