Exchange of enclaves between India, B'desh tonight

Exchange of enclaves between India and Bangladesh will take place tonight. According to Land Border Agreement between the two countries, 51 Bangladeshi enclaves situated at Indian side in Cooch Behar District of West Bengal and 111 Indian enclaves in Bangladeshi territory will be amalgamated with the main land at midnight. Residents of these enclaves will get citizenship according to their choice. A survey was conducted recently in both the sides of the border to take option for this purpose. AIR correspondent reports that dream of thousand of enclave dwellers will come into reality within few hours.<br/><br/><br/>The Indo-Bangladeshi enclaves are also known as Chitmahals. Around 51 thousands people residing in these enclaves in the both side of the border adjoining Cooch Behar District of West Bengal suffered identity crisis and denied basic needs of the life since many years. The District Magistrate of Cooch Behar Mr . P . Ulganathan told that after exchange of enclaves ,the dwellers will be allowed to go to respective country according to their citizenship with moveable and other belongings by 31st November this year. The Indian government has sanctioned around 3 thousand crores rupees rehabilitation package for those who will settle in India.

Exchange of enclaves between India, B'desh tonight

As the clock strikes midnight tonight, 111 Indian enclaves in Bangladeshi territory and 51 Bangladeshi enclaves in Indian territory are set to be physically transferred to the other country. The transfer will take place in pursuant to the 1974 Boundary Agreement and its Protocol of 2011, the instruments of which were ratified during the prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh last month. <br/><br/>Around 52,000 enclave residents will become residents of either country after living a stateless existence for 68 years. Under the Land Boundary Agreement, a joint nationality preference survey was conducted to give the residents the choice of nationality. Data from the survey is now being verified by the office of the Registrar General of India and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, says a press release from the Indian High Commission. It has said that both countries are working together to facilitate the trouble-free moving of residents before the stipulated date of November, 30th, 2015.
